Renowned visual effects artist and Oscar winner Tim McGovern, best known for his groundbreaking work on the film ‘Total Recall’, has passed away at the age of 68.
McGovern’s career spanned several decades and included contributions to numerous iconic films, earning him a reputation as a pioneer in the field of visual effects. His innovative work on ‘Total Recall’ earned him the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects in 1991, showcasing his exceptional talent and technical prowess.
The Visual Effects Society recently recognized McGovern with the 2023 Founders Award for his contributions to the art, science, or business of visual effects and meritorious service to the Society.
McGovern was a founding member of Sony Pictures ImageWorks and ran it as the Senior VFX Supervisor as well as the SVP of Creative and Technical Affairs. After leaving Sony, McGovern continued as an independent VFX artist and filmmaker.
NeGhandi shared that McGovern had written a film and a novel, which she will now take over and make for him.
“He had so many life dreams for his film and now he’s gone. He’s left it in my hands to make it happen now,” she added. “I have no idea how I will live without him. He took such good care of me and he was my world. May his soul rest in peace.”
Throughout his illustrious career, McGovern collaborated with some of the biggest names in Hollywood and left an indelible mark on the world of cinema with his creative vision and artistic expertise. His work on films such as ‘Star Trek: The Motion Picture’, ‘Ghostbusters’, and ‘Batman Forever’ solidified his status as an industry legend.
