Duck Factory is not a studio like the others: the entity, specializing in production and post-production, is in fact located on a barge anchored in the Paris region.
Recently, Duck Factory collaborated with the European Space Agency, which wanted to put forward a recruitment campaign. The idea was therefore to play on the spatial imagination and the associated dreams.
Jérôme Bernard, the founder of Duck Factory, explains that the project should target Europeans aged 12 to 35 (it was also a question of arousing vocations among young audiences).
The brief was received in September 2020, for a campaign launch in May 2021: too short a deadline given the challenges, hence the choice not to use traditional methods.
Duck Factory opted for the use of Unreal Engine and a virtual production system with LED screens (via the Virtual Plateau services, which we had already presented to you on 3DVF).
In practice, the team created the virtual environments in the space of 3 months, with the actual filming taking place over two days.
Jérôme Bernard said he was delighted with the approach, which made it possible to reduce the time spent on the set but also to “do the post-prod in pre-prod”.
On the technical side, the team relied in particular on the Quixel Megascans assets, as well as on Ultra Dynamic Sky.
The environments required from 1.7 million triangles (anechoic chamber) to 320 million triangles (landscape of Guyana), the majority revolving around the 4 or 5 million triangles.
