Special visualizations and liveliness house DNEG has divulged plans for another studio in Sydney, Australia, with Oscar victor Andrew Jackson (Distraught Max:Fury Road) as creative director on board.
The brand-new VFX and animation facility, which will open in Pyrmont, Sydney’s technology district, in cooperation with the government of New South Wales in early 2023, is expected to accommodate 500 artists.The visual effects work on George Miller’s Mad Max prequel Furiosa, which has begun production, will be the first part of DNEG Sydney.


The movie with Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth, and Tom Burke in the title role is being produced by Miller and Doug Mitchell.Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures are producing Furiosa, which will be released in 2024.
Miller’s long-rumored project will be a stand-alone action-adventure film about the powerful Furiosa character, who was made famous by Charlize Theron in Fury Road.The well-known hero of Mad Max, Max Rockatansky, will not be in the film.


The VFX work is anticipated to portray a post-apocalyptic world in which characters prevail amid violence, automobiles, and gasoline. The plot for Furiosa has not been revealed.As it expands into Australia, DNEG is the VFX studio behind blockbusters like Inception and Interstellar.
In a statement released on Wednesday, DNEG CEO and chairman Namit Malhotra stated, “The driving force behind everything that we do is the opportunity to collaborate and partner with filmmakers of the caliber of George Miller, whose work I love and respect.”
In addition to Furiosa, DNEG Sydney will host a new studio for DNEG Animation, the Netflix animation studio behind Entergalactic. In addition, DNEG Sydney will produce VFX for film and episodic projects.Andrew Jackson will migrate from DNEG London to lead DNEG Sydney as innovative chief.
He received an Oscar nomination for his work on Mad Max, for which he served as production VFX supervisor for Christopher Nolan’s Tenet:Road of Fury.Jackson last worked as a production VFX supervisor for the upcoming Nolan biopic Oppenheimer.
