Roar Uthaug is the director of the 2022 Norwegian monster film Troll. It stars Ine Marie Wilmann, Kim Falck, Mads Sjogard Pettersen, Gard B. Eidsvold, Pal Richard Lunderby, and Eric Vorenholt. It follows a ragtag group of people who have to work together to stop an ancient troll from wreaking havoc after it was awakened in a Norwegian mountain.
When his film Tomb Raider was nearly finished, director Uthaug had a meeting with executives from Motion Blur to talk about making a movie. He thought about using a Norwegian folklore-inspired idea for more than two decades. In March 2021, the concept art depicting the titular monster attacking Oslo was made public. Location shooting took place in Askim, Dovre, Indre Ostfold, Lom, Oyer, Rena, and Ulsteinvik, beginning in August 2021 and concluding in November.
