Tomb Raider VFX Breakdown by Method Studio

Method Studios – 352 shots including large CG set pieces, vast digital environments and deadly virus FX.  Given general concepts, Method artists, guided by VFX Supervisor Glenn Melenhorst and Comp Lead Matt Omond, were able to stretch creatively. Method amplified the design of a massive underground pagoda, developed the look of the mummy virus and sculpted interesting cliff faces based on real geography, among other contributions.

Scanline VFX delivered 300 shots for the movie including destructions of the ship Endurance sequenceLara on the wing, creation of the Japanese bomber and the waterfall environment. VFX Supervisor at Scanline VFX, Nick Crew lead a team of 80 Artist at Scanline.

Tomb Raider VFX Breakdown by Rising Sun Pictures

Rising Sun Pictures created 260 visual effects shots across 19 scenes for the film. The work included an extended sequence near the climax, where Lara makes a miraculous leap over a subterranean chasm and sprints through an ancient tomb as it crumbles to dust around her. The team was also tasked with constructing a cryptic “Puzzle Room” whose collapsing floor imperils Lara, as well as 3D matte paintings, set extensions, CG vehicles, pyrotechnics and other complex effects.
