Rodeo’s work on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is the ultimate expression of time plus teamwork. If that sounds a little abstract, let us illustrate it this way: on a film, a team might create 300 shots in a 9-month period or longer, but on a TV series like Falcon, you’re making a little over 500 shots on that same timeline! Not only is there a crunch in terms of pipeline, production, and talent, but the quality has to be the best. And we mean, absolutely top-notch…and the VFX Supervisors here at Rodeo and at Marvel will accept nothing less.
On this show, we watched as fictional superheroes smashed their enemies, but at Rodeo, we witnessed real-life human superpowers at work while delivering the infamous truck battle. This puzzle of a sequence involved seamless digidoubles, perfectly recreated environments, speeding vehicles, intricate action shots, a robotic arm, and all while choreographing the complicated task of making everything and everyone seem incredibly fast-moving while at normal speeds. This scene embodies the power of modern-day visual effects and shows off the mindblowing talent and teamwork at Rodeo FX.
That’s just one of the amazing things we pulled off. We helped bring the first-ever on-screen version of the city of Madripoor to the world, a futuristic ‘Pirate’ city encompassing the grit of the Low-town slums juxtaposed by the wealth and opulence of the glass skyscrapers of Hightown, inspired by cities like Hong Kong and Macao. It was also our team that put the first spray of blood on Captain America’s shield — an unconventional but still noteworthy honor in the MCU. Throw in a photorealistic chopper, flawless digidoubles, and 9 x 9 kilometers of CG forest, and in these effects, we’re witnessing a complete cinematic universe of a scale without equal.
