Fast & Furious 9 release pushed back to April 2021

The Fast 9 (F9) movie has been pushed back one year until April 2021. The movie was originally scheduled to be released on Friday, May 22 of this year, but now it will be released in North America on Friday, April 2, 2021.

Universal Pictures is delaying the blockbuster because of the coronavirus pandemic. Variety reports that Universal made the decision because of the impact that the COVID-19 outbreak is having on the global economy and distribution landscape. Movie theaters remain closed in South Korea, China, and Italy and there’s concern that theaters in the United States will close before the outbreak slows.

“Fast 9” was scheduled to be released in the United States on May 22, 2020. The move is a blow to movie theaters. “Fast & Furious” sequels tend to be among the year’s highest-grossing movies and the release date shift leaves Memorial Day weekend without one of its star attractions.
